Objectives: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to: - Listen for specific information to biography of an artist : Picasso. -Write a letter to invite a friend to an art exhibition. B. Language knowledge: 1.Structure (Language Focus) - Form of informal letter of invitation 2.Vocabulary . Review some vocabulary about arts: Sculpture, produce, portrait ,training , astistic C. Teaching aids: 1. Students: -Notebooks, text books, workbook 2. Teacher: -Text books, workbook, projector D. Skills: - Listening and writing. E. Procedures : I/ Warm up: (Chattting) +What is your favourite hobby? + Do you like drawing ? + Can you tell me something about this picture? Picasso Sculpture in Halmstad,Sweden Picasso It is about14 meters high , a piece of sculpture "Woman's Head" It was created by a Norwegian sculptor on the model of a figure by Picasso. II/ New lesson: 1 Listening: *Activity 1: Listen to the passage about Picasso and circle the words you hear.
- - Look at listening tip: When you listen, it is very useful to take notes. Try to note down the keywords (important words). This helps you to remember the main ideas. T asks students read listening tip and guide them how to do. - Look at activity 1 Teacher asks : + How many words are there? - Guide Ss how to do: Listen and note down the keywords in their notebooks. -Play the recording. - Asks to share their answers with partner. -Play the recording again. Teacher gets feedback, checks and gives the correct answer. * Key: 1. artists 2. training 4. portrait 6. paintings. - T asks Ss look at the words they’ve circled. Do you know what all of these words mean? If they don’t know the meaning of these words , teacher will explain . *Activity 2: Listen to the passage again and choose the correct answers. Teacher asks : + How many questions are there? Teacher runs through all questions and checks Ss’ understanding. Ask ss how to do ? + Listen and circle A, B, or C for their answers. -Play the recording. -Play the recording again . Teacher gets feedback , checks and gives the correct answer. * Key : 1. A 2. B 3. A 4. C *Activity 3: Listen to the passage one more time. As a class, discuss how the listening is organized ( according to a timeline, the order of important events, or another way) Teacher guide Ss how to do this activity . Key: According to a timeline Tape scription : Picasso ( Pablo Ruiz y Picasso ) is one of the greatest artists of the 20th century. He was born on 25th October 1881 in Malaga , Spain. He showed a great love and skill for drawing from an early age, and at the age of seven , Picasso received formal artistic training from his father . At 13, he was admitted to ma School of Fine Art in
- Barcelona . In 1896 , he completed “ Portrait of Aunt Pepa” , which is considered one of the greatest works of Spain . During his life , he produced an enormous number of works of art : about 50,000 in total , including 1,885 paintings. Several paintings by Picasso rank among the most expensive paintings in the words . Picasso died on 8 April , 1973 in Mougins , France 2. Writing: *Activity 4: Read the following letter and choose the correct answer. Teacher asks some questions: What is this? Who writes this letter? T asks Ss to read the sample letter. Ss note down the useful expresssions (cues) for writing an informal Read the letter carefully and choose the correct answer . Teacher gets feedback, checks and gives the correct answer. Key: 1. A 2. Would you like + to V ? Why don’t we + V ? * Activity 5: Now write a letter to invite a friend to an art exhibition, using the following. Ss read the cues carefully ,then practise writing the letter. + Event: Exhibition of Modern Art. + Time: 9 o’clock, Saturday morning + Place: Arts centre + Time to meet: 8.15 Tell Ss to pay special attention to spelling and punctuation. Teacher calls two or three students to write on the board Teacher goes around and helps Ss if they need . Teacher collects some ss’ mistakes. Teacher writes on the board and ask Ss correct mistakes . Teacher collects some Ss’ writing papers and mark them, then give comments to class.
- 3. Project Teacher tells Ss to look at the following pictures and read the information below carefully. Teacher explains new words and anything dificult for Ss. Dong Ho paintings are made in Dong Ho Village,Bac Ninh Province.They are made by hand and they show animals, legends and everyday life.The paintings are made on traditional paper with beautiful natural colours.They are bought and enjoyed at Tet. Teacher encourages Ss to use their immaginations and make their own paintings. + Draw a picture of animals or the things around you. + Write a few sentences to describe your picture. + Think of the following before you start painting. - Content: (an animal, a tree, a flower, a person ) - Materials: (pencil, crayon, paper, canvas ) - Colours: (red, yellow, blue ) Let Ss make their paintings at home and next time bring them to class for the show. III/ Consolidation: - Teacher summarize the content of this lesson. IV/ Homework: Do exercise (E 2/ P.35 -Work book) Do project . Prepare Unit 5: Lesson 1. Getting started.
