- Lesson plan - English 7 Nguyen Thi Thanh Huyen Week 6 Preparing date: 07/10/2023 Teaching date: 09/10/2023 PERIOD 16: UNIT 3: COMMUNITY SERVICE LESSON 1: GETTING STARTED I. AIMS 1. Knowledge By the end of this lesson, Ss will be able to: - Know more about community service. Listen and read for specific information about “Sounds like great work” to have an overview about the topic "Community service.” - Use the lexical items related to community activities 1.1. Vocabulary: Community activities 1.2. Grammar: The Simple past tense 2. Competences - Develop communication skills and enhance awareness of preserving the culture - Be collaborative and supportive in pair work and teamwork - Actively join in class activities 3. Quality - Develop self-study skills - Raise students’ awareness of how to keep their neighborhood green II. TEACHING AIDS 1. Students: Grade 7 Textbook, workbook, and notebook 2. Teachers: Grade 7 Teacher’s book, workbook, Technology Equipment, sachmem.vn III. TEACHING PROCEDURES 1. Warm up : Greeting -T draws students’ attention to the picture in the textbook and asks them some questions about it: What are they doing? -Students raise hands to answer the questions. -Teacher and students discuss the questions. -T confirms the answers and indicates that they are doing “community activities”. -T accepts all students’ questions and explains the term “Community service” (It’s the work that people do without payment to help other people). -> Lead in the lesson. 2. New lesson 2.1. Vocabulary -T introduces the vocabulary by providing the pictures and eliciting the definition of the words. community activity (n.phr): hoạt động vì lợi ích cộng đồng donate (v) : quyên góp, hiến tặng nursing home (n.phr): nhà/ viện dưỡng lão homeless (adj): vô gia cư ->Using “Rub out and remember” to check vocabulary. Ss open their textbook to get further discovery). 2.2 Activities a. Activity 1: Listen and read (part 1- Page 28) * Objective: -To set the context for the introductory conversation. -To introduce the topic of the unit. * Content: Listen and read the conversation to complete the task related to the topic of the unit. * Output: Ss can understand the dialogue, get to know the topic of the unit. * Process: -T plays the recording more than once. -Students listen and read. -T invites some pairs of students to read aloud. -T checks students’ pronunciation ad gives feedback. b. Activity 2: Read the conversation again and tick the appropriate box (part 2- page 29) * Objective: To help students read for specific information about Minh and Tom’s community activities. * Content: Read the conversation again and tick the appropriate box. * Output: Ss know what community activities Minh’s and Tom’s club join. * Process: -T tells students to read the conversation again and work in pairs to find the answers. -Students underline the words and phrases about community activities then work together for one or two minutes to check the words / phrases they have underlined. -Students share their answers before discussing as a class and T encourages them to pronounce the words / phrases correctly. -T checks the answers as a class and gives feedback. -> keys: Community activity Minh’s club Tom’s club 1. picking up litter v 2. planting vegetables v 3. donating books v 4. donating vegetables v 5. teaching English v c. Activity 3: Complete the phrases under the pictures with the given verbs below ( part 3- page29) * Objective: - To help students use phrases related to community activities. - To help students further understand the text. * Content: Complete the phrases under the pictures with the given verbs. - Lesson plan - English 7 Nguyen Thi Thanh Huyen * Output: Ss can use phrases related to community activities. * Process: -T asks students to work individually to complete the phrases under the pictures with the given verbs. -Students work individually to complete the task. -Students share their answers before discussing as a class. -T asks students to say the phrases aloud and makes sure they pronounce the words and phrases correctly. Activity 4: Complete each sentence with a word or phrase from the box (part4- page 29) * Objective: To help students use the vocabulary related to community activities in the right context. * Content: Complete each sentence with a word or phrase from the box. * Output: Ss can use the vocabulary related to community activities in the right context. * Process: -T asks students to work independently to complete each sentence with a word or phrase from the box. -Students fill in the blanks with the most suitable words / phrases. -Students share their answers before discussing as a class. -T can ask students to read aloud the full sentences and correct their pronunciation if needed. -> keys: 1. homeless children 2. litter 3. old people 4. taught 5. planted e. Activity 5: Vocabulary Ping-Pong game (part 5-page29) * Objective: - To help students review and reuse the vocabulary presented. - To create a fun atmosphere in the class. * Content: Play the Vocabulary Ping-Pong game. * Output: Ss can use the vocabulary related to community activities in the right context. * Process: Ninh Xa Secondary school 3 School year 2023-2024
- Lesson plan - English 7 Nguyen Thi Thanh Huyen -T instructs students to play the Vocabulary Ping-Pong game: -Ss think of the topic Community Service. -One student from team A says out a word or phrase related to the topic. Then one student from team B makes a sentence with that word or phrase. Then switch roles. - The team that cannot give a phrase or make a correct sentence loses and the other team gets a point. -Students play the game. -T goes round to help weaker students. -T stops the game when time is up. The team that makes the most correct sentences wins. =>Example: Team A: Litter Team B: We often pick up litter in the park. Trees Team A: We plan trees in our school every year. Book 3. Consolidation: what students have learnt in the lesson: Community activities 4. Homework - Write down at least 3 community activities that you do. - Project preparation + T informs student of the final project of the Unit’s project. + T explains the requirements of the project: Think about some environmental problems in your neighborhood and the solutions to those problems. Students will present their ideas in Unit 3: Lesson 7 – Looking back and Project. + T puts students into groups and asks them to discuss to assign tasks for each member, helps them set a deadline for each task.
