- Week: PERIOD Preparing date: UNIT 1: HOBBIES Teaching date: LESSON 1: GETTING STARTED I. AIMS 1. Knowledge - Introduce the topic of the unit. - Know more about the hobbies. Listen and read for specific information about my favorite hobby to have an overview about the topic "Hobbies". - Use the vocabulary to talk about hobbies. 1.1. Vocabulary: - Lexical items related to the topic Hobbies 1.2. Grammar: Present simple. Verbs of liking and disliking 2. Competences - Develop communication skills and creativity - Be collaborative and supportive in pair work and teamwork - Actively join in class activities 3. Quality - Love talking about their hobbies. - Develop self-study skills II. TEACHING AIDS 1. Students: Student’s book, workbook. 2. Teachers: Students’ book, workbook, tape script, projector, pictures, sachmem.vn. III. TEACHING PROCEDURES 1. Class organization/ Warm up: Chatting: - T asks students what they like doing for pleasure in their free time. - Students may answer: Watching TV, reading books, playing sports, . - Summarize students’ answers and ask them what these activities are called. - Elicit the word “hobbies”. - Write the unit title on the board: Hobbies. - Let students open their books and start the lesson. 2. New lesson. 2.1. Vocabulary - unusual (trans) (a): Khác thường - dollhouse (image) (n): Nhà búp bê - glue (realia) (n): Keo, hồ dán - carboard (realia) (n): Bìa các tông

Activity 1: Listen and read * Objective: To set the context for the introductory conversation * Content: To introduce the topic of the unit, vocabulary, the sounds. * Output: Students can role play the conversation * Process: - T writes the title of the lesson “My favorite hobby” on the board. - Ask students to look at the picture and answer the questions. 1. Can you guess who they are? 2. What can you see in the pictures? 3. What hobby do they have? - T introduces the two characters: Trang and Ann and explain they are friends. - Play the recording twice for students to listen and read along. - T quickly write Ss’ answers to questions 2- 3 on the board. - Invite some pairs of students to read to conversation aloud. b. Activity 2: Read the conversation again and write T (True) or F (False). * Objective:To help students understand the conversation * Content: Read the conversation to complete the task related to the topic of the unit. * Output: Students complete the task and correct the false sentences * Process: - Ask students to read the sentences and divide if they are true of false without reading the conversation again. - Student may read the conversation again to confirm their answers before giving teacher the answers. - Elicit the answers from Ss. Have them correct the false sentences. - Write the correct answers on the board. Key: 1. F (She made it herself.) 2. T 3. T 4. T 5. F (Her lesson starts at 8 a.m.)
- c. Activity 3: Write the words and phrases from the box under the correct pictures. Then listen, check, and repeat. * Objective: To introduce some vocabulary items related to hobbies. * Content: To label the pictures * Output: SS can match the correct words with the pictures * Process: - Ask students to name the pictures. - Have students work individually to write the words and phrases from the box under the correct pictures. - Have them compare their answers with a partner. Then ask for Ss’ answers. - Have students listen to the recording, check their answers and repeat the words / phrases. - Ask students to look at the answers on the board and say if they are right or wrong. - Confirm the correct answers. - Have some students practice saying the words and phrases again. Write the hobbies from 3 in the suitable columns. * Objective: To help students categorize hobbies. * Content: To think of different hobbies * Output: SS put the hobbies in correct type * Process - Have students work in pairs and complete the table. - Write their answers on the board. - Have students add more words to the table. Suggested answers: doing things: horse riding, gardening (others: travelling, skiing, doing yoga, etc.) making things: making models, building dollhouses (others: painting, making pottery, etc.) collecting things: collecting coins, collecting teddy bears (others: collecting toys, collecting books ) e. Activity 5. Game: Find someone who * Objective: To help students practice using the vocabulary items related to hobbies. * Content: Play the game
- * Output: Students know about their classmates’ hobbies, they can find the one who shares the hobby with them. * Process - Set time (3-5 minutes) for students to do this activity. - Then ask the classmates around to complete the table, using the questions “Do you like .?” The student who completes the table first wins. He/ She reports their result. From their reports T introduces grammar points which appear in this lesson : Grammar: - T presents some grammar points: + Common verbs of liking and disliking: like/ love/ enjoy/ dislike .+V-ing + The present simple tense: Use/ form/ sign. Project - T guides ss to prepare project at home -Teacher divides students into 4 groups + Choose a popular hobby among teens + Think about its benefits, then discuss to choose what to include. + Find suitable photos or draw their pictures then create a poster about it. + Each group will show their posters and present their ideas in Lesson 7: Looking back and Project. 3. Consolidation -T asks students to talk about what they have learnt in the lesson. - An overview about the topic Hobbies - Vocabulary to talk about hobbies 4. Homework - Do exercises in the workbook. - Prepare for: Lesson 2 - A closer look 1 5. Teaching experience (handwriting): Teacher takes note after the lecture.
